August 2026 Calendar

August Activity Calendar
Hello BestSelf Team and Our Valued Community Partners,
As we step into August, we are reminded that some of the greatest victories in recovery are the ones the world never sees. They are found in choosing to hope over despair, reaching out instead of isolating, showing up one more day, and believing that healing is still possible. Recovery is often built through quiet moments of courage, and those moments deserve to be celebrated just as much as the milestones. At the Recovery Community Outreach Center, we have the privilege of witnessing those moments every day as strangers become family, obstacles become opportunities, and lived experience becomes a source of hope for someone else. Recovery is not about having all the answers; instead, it is about discovering that none of us has to walk the journey alone!
August is recognized as National Wellness Month, International Overdose Awareness Month, and National Black Business Month. These observances remind us that recovery is about caring for our whole selves while strengthening the communities around us. Wellness is more than physical health; it is emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and financial well-being. Every healthy choice, every supportive conversation, and every act of self-care is an investment in a stronger tomorrow.
Throughout the month, our Recovery Community Outreach Center will continue offering peer-led groups, mindfulness, movement, creative expression, recovery discussions, wellness activities, and one-on-one peer support. Whether someone is seeking connection, encouragement, or simply a safe place to be themselves, our doors remain open because we believe healing happens through relationships and recovery grows in community!
This month, we will continue offering Problem Gambling 101 and confidential peer support resources, helping to reduce stigma and increase awareness that gambling-related harms affect individuals, families, and communities, and that recovery is possible. We also encourage everyone to take part in our wellness-focused programming throughout National Wellness Month as we continue building healthy habits together.
As we approach International Overdose Awareness Day, our hearts turn toward remembrance, compassion, and hope. Together, we will honor the precious lives that have been lost, stand beside those who continue to grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to preventing overdose through education, harm reduction, and community support. We invite you to join us for this meaningful event as we share stories, remember loved ones, participate in Narcan training, learn about Xylazine awareness, and remind one another that every life is valuable and every life is worth fighting for!
We also invite anyone interested in strengthening recovery throughout Western New York to join our Recovery Community Outreach Center Advisory Board. Your lived experience, your perspective, and your voice help shape a Recovery Community Center that continues to reflect the needs and strengths of the people we serve.
📅 Recovery Community Wellness BBQ *Community Partner Reminder*
As we prepare to celebrate National Recovery Month, excitement continues to build for our Recovery Community Wellness BBQ on Wednesday, September 9, from 1:00–4:00pm. We are grateful for the many community partners who have already committed to joining us.
We currently have a limited number of community partner tables still available. If your organization would like to participate, please let us know by Monday, August 10, so we can finalize event planning. We would be honored to have you stand alongside us as we celebrate recovery, promote wellness, strengthen community connections, and remind every individual who attends that recovery is possible and no one has to walk the journey alone.
Thank you all for believing in the power of recovery, the strength of lived experience, and the healing that happens when communities come together. Every conversation plants a seed of hope! Every act of kindness reminds someone they matter! Together, we continue creating a community where healing is possible, hope is restored, and every recovery journey is honored!
As we prepare to enter National Recovery Month, may we continue carrying hope into every conversation, compassion into every encounter, and the unwavering belief that recovery is possible for everyone. Together, we recover! Together, we thrive!
Together in hope and healing,
The Recovery Community Outreach Center
